Q: Different types of HRV from Apple and Oura payloads

MainCod5 months ago

I see that Oura and Apple both provide HRV in their sleep payloads, however apple only gives SDNN and oura only gives RMSSD. I was wondering what is the difference?

Hi there, these are different metrics for heart rate variability that are calculated differently so we do not consolodate them into the same category. They are calculated differently where RMSSD is Root mean square of the successive differences in beats and SDNN is Standard deviation of the NN (R-R) intervals. You can read more regarding the two types of HRV and how they are calculated on our blogs
